Crime-fighting Local 115 members

Member Rep Tim Cullen confirmed that Local Union members working at Waste Management of Canada on Vancouver Island are the newest recruits in the campaign to fight crime.

“Waste Watch,” only on the Island for now, is training the drivers to recognize suspicious activity on their early morning rounds and call police. So far, 24 members have received 1.5 hours of training from Vancouver Island police officers to learn how to identify robberies, assaults, vandalism and home invasions in the neighbourhoods they serve. They are operating 20 trucks in Duncan, Nanaimo, Parksville, Quadra Island, Sayward and Campbell River.

These Local Union members are ideally suited to the task because they’re working when most people are still asleep.
