Plant Operator
(16 weeks of technical training and 4500 hours work experience)

Upon completion of this apprenticeship program, the apprentice will receive an Apprenticeship Completion Certificate and will be prepared to challenge the Trade Qualification "T.Q." Examination.

The 8 weeks training in the FIRST YEAR and the 4 weeks training in the SECOND YEAR are "common core" training topics.

The final 4 weeks of training provided in the THIRD YEAR will be specific to the designated apprenticeship, either Aggregate, Asphalt or Concrete.

FIRST YEAR Training Topics:

· Hydraulic Systems and Components
· Pneumatic Systems and Components
· Communications
· Environmental Concerns

THIRD YEAR Training Topics:
(4 Weeks)

· Plants: Types and Operation
· Air Flows, Burners and Dryers (Asphalt only)
· Auxiliary Systems and Equipment
· Calibration (Asphalt only)
· Product Knowledge and Quality Control
· Site Inspection and Job Planning
· Plant Set-Up and Plant Take-Down
· Power Sources
· Programmable Logic Controllers
· Environmental Concerns
· Trouble-Shooting

Note: Courses are held Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at our Maple Ridge Training Centre and are scheduled on an "as needed" basis.
